In recent years, the needs of the community of Chisasibi have greatly evolved. OCTANT Aviation was mandated for the development of a Master Plan aiming to modernize its airport infrastructures. Based on an in-depth analysis of the aircrafts in service and design standards, OCTANT Aviation conducted a comprehensive analysis of air traffic and carriers’ needs in order to ensure the seamless flow of increased traffic. OCTANT Aviation then carried out a feasibility study for the extension and resurfacing of the runway as well as the expansion of the apron. The study included a review of all operational aspects, as well as an assessment of airfield lighting and navigation equipment requirements. The mandate was completed with the production of a business case to support the applications to public funding. In 2018, the Cree Nation of Chisasibi received $ 4.2 million from the federal ACAP program for the resurfacing of the runway, the complete overhaul of the lighting system, the expansion of the apron and the addition of a taxiway. Moreover, in 2020 the community received over $ 3.2 million from the Ministère des Transports du Québec through the PAQIAR program in assistance for the extension of the runway.
