The community of Salluit is located on the northern edge of Quebec’s territory and is only accessible by air. This station plays a crucial role in Air Inuit’s flight operations, as it is the final airport on the crews’ workday before returning to Montreal the next day. Salluit’s coastal location causes frequent marginal weather conditions, which resulted in missed approaches and diversions. Air Inuit assigned OCTANT Aviation and its partner IDS North America the task of designing a steep approach, which would improve service to the community in addition to reducing operating and fuel costs, as well as GHG emissions. In order to meet Transport Canada’s exemption requirements, OCTANT Aviation carried out a comprehensive analysis of operational benefits as well as a risk analysis to support the new procedure.
