The Nunatsiavut Government has mandated OCTANT Aviation to complete the first phase of the Nain airport relocation project – the implementation of the Master Plan. The goal was to provide the government with a solution in regards to the location of the new airport and to specify the data collection methods as well the technical analysis required to carry out the feasibility study. The location of the new airport, as well as its technical characteristics, will allow it to meet the current needs of the community in addition to fostering the economic development of the region. One of the keys to the success of the project was the selection of a site allowing an Instrument Approach Procedure capable of lateral and vertical guidance (LPV – Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance) down to the lowest possible minima for GNSS approaches : 250 feet. The selection of the site with a view to affixing the reference project was made on the basis of a multi-criteria analysis. OCTANT Aviation then identified, described and estimated the activities to be conducted for the next phase of the project; the completion of the feasibility studies.
